Today we launched a redesigned admin bar, the handy toolbar you see at the top of every WordPress.com blog when you’re logged in. We’ve retired the old flat blue look in favor of something that better matches the swanky new WordPress.com dashboard.
The new admin bar is designed to command less attention — the previous blue bar had a tendency to clash with some themes. With the new design, the admin bar should recede into the background — available when you need it, not too noticeable when you don’t.
We’ve also included a few extra touches of style for users of the latest-generation browsers with the best CSS support.

Is there a feature of WordPress.com you’d like to see in the admin bar? Would you like the admin bar to be displayed in your dashboard? Leave a comment and let us know how we can make this feature more useful for you.

Looks good!
Yes, I would most definitely like the admin bar to show up in my dashboard.
Looks great – would like to have “blog stats” available on the bar 🙂
Cool 🙂 Thank you, WordPress team 😉
Cool …
🙂
Cool !
WP rocks…
Great Job!!
nice work ty…
i like it
nice 🙂
thnks
Well……i must thank wordpress staff for givin the opportunity to all, to express them selfs . Long life to all good people like you and us, and a “islander solution” to institution and religious leaders.
Lezapp staff.
i liked more the blue bar.
Looks much better now. Thanks. But it would be nice if we could choose the color ourselves.
hey, i am a roumanian boy….this is my first comm on the wordpress “world” …it’s a very nice bar, but i didan’t try yet:)…..cy’a to all
great so beatifull blue lost xD bye
GOOOOODDD JOOOOB!!!
:B
Great.
This is really a good news for all wordpress.com user including me.
awesome work.. wordpress rocks \m/
I loved the blue…but grey’s alright. It took a couple days, but I like it.
Cool stuffs. It is great to see some new development in this beloved blogging community 🙂
I like it too. Grey is stylish. Grey is the new black. Thanks 😉
Don’t like the new color at all. I mean definitely not, not at all. Someone previously referred to it as “silvery-gray”?? Come on, that must be a joke. Looks much more like “insipid and pasty gray” to me. Some thing are, for me, just better left alone…or as they were….
Cool, though luckily simple visitors don’t get to see this part anyway, so it’s not such a major issue.
I’d be happier with a blackish/dark version of Mistylook, the ONLY theme that lists subpages on the main page itself. Please. 🙂
Nice look ! Thanks… 🙂
Looks good on my blog’s theme, well done.
I can agree with a lot of people above, the new bar is very nice. I would also like a quick link to the stats page.
Yes Sir! This unobtrusive gray bar blends smoothly into the web page. Tiny improvements like these is why I love WordPress.
Thank you!
Omar.-
The encroachment of the Apple Style continues :P. Not complaining! Just pointing out that the carbon admin bar suits my Safari look and feel very nicely.
I’d like to entire upper level admin navigation on the Admin bar.
e.g. I’d like to see: “Write | Manage | Design | Comments | Upgrades | Settings”
I don’t think “Users” is oft visited enough to matter, but I suppose for consistencies sake it might be better in the bar.
Thanks for this improvement. 🙂
Blue is my favorite color, but this is good too. ; ;
It looks so much cleaner now, very nice work!
very nice ،،
I definitely like the new gray admin bar. It’s less obtrusive than the blue was. Great work. 🙂
As many have said: colour customization! Stats link on the bar!
I don’t really see how grey ties in with the new Dashboard colour scheme since the admin bar isn’t visible on the Dashboard anyway.
While on the general admin bar topic, I’ve always found the ‘Press This’ button to be quite redundant.
Nice…and it is quite unnoticeable…thanks!
(in continuation of my earlier comment) … because it’s limited to WordPress blogs.
Brilliant, thank you! 😀
I really like it, much less distracting for my dark themed blog. As a neutral colour it definitely wont clash with themes like that blue monstrosity did. But I can’t see why we can’t just control it ourselves (like blogger).
I like it 😀
I’m sorry. But I prefer the blue one…
I think it’d be great for users to be able to select what they want in their admin bar and what they don’t (stats, blog/tag surfer, settings, basically anything you can get off the dashboard ought to be at least available for the admin bar).
At the very least, users should be able to change the admin bar’s color to suit themselves.
And I agree with whoever come up with the idea for an admin bar display on-off toggle feature.
I didn’t necessarily dislike the blue admin bar but I do like the grey! 🙂
nice job done.:)
Great! I work with mozilla and the old worked fine with moz., but not that good with the Explorer. With the new one I can use both in a good way. Thanks!
yeah. nice. but adding opacity and color options might be more wikier. 🙂
Looks great!
Whoa, love it. Great job! 😀
Love it:) Looks much better now!
WordPress got it right on this one!
After the disastrous new dashboard and related links feature, the redesigned admin bar is a keeper.
I agree to have a link to the stats. Love the colour a very sleek and modern feel to it.
Great!!! Its got a ‘Mac’ feel to it…
Thank you, darlings. This is great.
Way better than the old one.
The dashboard needs some adjustment from us users but the functionality is way better.
From the admin bar I would like to click on stats directly. Saves a lot of extra clicking…
I’m not sure what the rest of you 247 people are thinking, but I mean no offense to the WordPress crew: this looks like crap.
I’m all for the move to the gray – it’s neutral, less obtrusive, and more on par with the new admin. But what were you thinking? In Safari, this looks like it was made 7 years ago! Zebra stripes, drop shadows, and rounded corners (there’s also a bug with ending on a white stripe where the corners jut out)? The gradient isn’t all that bad, but still weak and a random UI choice.
Really, is this the best that you can do? Why does Firefox’s admin bar look so much better? Because it doesn’t get any of this crap. How about letting us set the theme if you’re going to use this?
Come on guys :\.
Nice change.
I, too, would like to be able to immediately be taken to the Blog Stats page. Additionally, it would be nice to have an auto-generator for Reddit, StumbleUpon, etc. so that people can more easily add our sites to those for more hit generation.
Thanks for any consideration.
Mine worked better with the blue. But it’s not like it’s a big deal. At least this switch isn’t as drastic as the last one. [comlain]which I *still* haven’t gotten used to[/complain]
But yeah like a few other comments a link to the stats page would be nice, and I heavily support the things colour being selectable.
Yes, I like it ! Great job !!
Cool! 😀
I noticed it straightaway; it blends in with
my blog so much better… thank you
however, fyi, but I’m sure you already knew
blogspotters have a choice of black, blue,
brown or silver
go word go! thkz
It well be much better. Thx wordpress
: )
For me don’t make any difference to use.
OMG! i ♥ the new bar! it rox!
Well done! I like it.
I like it, but you should be able to change the color. 😉

So good. Very nice. Happy launching your innovation. Thanks.
love it thanks 😀
wow cool, i really love wordpress 🙂
i need a chatbox widget, can you create it???
thanks 🙂
Am SO much happier with the new colour. Thanks.
I like it much better, thanks.
Nice works! It was great to see improvements by days….
Nice and very ellegant….
I like it. I think the “Blog Surfer” should be accessible on there… that’s what I’m usually on wordpress for. Thanks!
really nice thx
Excellent changes to the admin bar. I agree with having a link to the stats. Also, I’d like to see something like what Manny Z described with an option to make the admin bar scroll down with the page content so that I can access it at any point. Good job! Keep it up!
excelent, is fantastic…
🙂
in gray is cool!!
thnks
beautiful bar
Nice. Thx
What’s the difference? Any color you pick will clash with some color schemes and work with others. Secondarily, virtually every browser puts up tabs, address bars, menu options, and other stuff in various colors around what you’re looking at anyway.
That’s nice, more better that the older Admin Bar.
Great work…
Cya!.-
kipa ilakes…
i love it
Thats awesome! your getting more-awesome by the second!!
Yes. A pair of grateful eyes here.
Discreet is good.
I have celeberated my first anniversary with WordPress and so far every issue has been dealt with courtesy and understanding.
You guys are just brill!
Thanks!
For me is more beautiful too!
very nice
thank you
yes its better
Nice.
There is now link to the wordpress.com -page (under my Account). I would love to see there also a link to the homepage of users language. I mean that for me there would be link to fi.wordpress.com because i have my blog in finnish and so on.
That look great!. Keep continue … it is look better than old one
I love the new design of the admin-toolbar.
Aside from really suiting with the colorscheme of the theme I use it just seems.. better, smoother and more minimalistic, which is really great. Not as annoying for the eye either, not as “flashy” as the old one.
Thanks for a wonderful update WordPress!
more subtle design. i like it. tx.
Great new bar — I noticed the color change and appreciated it. I second the motion about linking to the stats page from the admin bar.
Also … how about the ability to customize, adding one or two links of your own? I use a text widget to place a customized Twitter-like message at the top right of my blog, and this message changes frequently. It’d be nice to have a way to reach the Widget page quickly, rather than going from Dashboard -> Design -> Widgets.
Stats Tab would be cool, I agree or .. My Comments .. nice design tho..
Any chance we can get some more themes.. really starting to get bored 😦 😛 sorry for my honesty 🙂 🙂
As a few others mentioned, I think that a link directly to the stats page would be nice to have.
Since you’re asking for suggestions, here you go.
Make the content on the admin bar user controlled, as you do with widgets.
Like, i would enjoy being able to see the daily hit count up there, and maybe an alert if i have any comments awaiting moderation, but i wouldn’t like to have the blog or tag surfer sitting up there, and some ppl would.
And, hey, maybe i could *select* the colour of the toolbar! How out-there is that?
You guys seem to be spending a lot of time worrying about colours and not so much time working on new widgets. Like, howsabout you team up with Shelfari and make it possible for me to display the last five books i’ve read in the sidebar of my free account? That’d be neat-o.
You know, since javascript-based widgets from third parties are verboten and all.
It is fine but I liked the blue better. What about a choice of colors. 🙂
