👋 What’s new? – Carin

    Hi! 👋

I’v had WordPress many years ago, and want to set up a site again.

But its seems like your biz-model has changed, since.

And I don’t understand it 🙈 So pls, fill it in for me!

This is how it was before:
Wordpress is free. You can use hundreds of free templates etc and plugin that’s amaze. if you want to, there are paid templates and plugins too. WordPress never put ads onto your own website. And you could customize by changing the css etc…

If you host through WordPress, it sais WordPress in your domain. But you could buy your own web host and domain and connect it, for free.

Is this still the case?? ☺️

I get soooo confused from all paid options.

Can I still buy a separate domain and web host, and use WordPress for free? Or will you add ads and restrictions to what I can do on my website, if I chose my own web- and domain host? And would I no longer be able to change the code and start building from quality pre-made templates, if so?

Thank you and have a great day!! 😍👋

    Kind regards,
    Carin

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

You are mixing up the open source software wordpress.org you can use on your self-hosted site and the wordpress.com platform.

What you call “This is how it was before” is the open source wordpress.org you can use for free on your self-hosted site.
