2 usernames associated with one email address

Prior to purchasing a theme I opened a WP account with a username. I then later went and bought a theme, however, when I did this I created a new username. Now I am trying to delete the old username. I thought I had done this but it is still active. I have a screen shot on my desktop actually showing the screen where I had to type in the username and confirm I wanted to delete it, but it must still be registered.
How do I remove it please? -

I’m not seeing any WordPress.com sites associated with the user account you are posting from. This frequently means that you have a site using the open source WordPress software, but hosted elsewhere.

I’m going to have to get in touch with someone because if I try to answer this I’ll just confuse the heck out of everyone. Better I try to get help elsewhere. Thanks for offering suggestions.
