2013 wordpress site

Please can you help me. I’m a very novice WP user and a designer by trade.

I have my files from an old wordpress site built in 2013, and I want to install, and update the content. I believe the theme is also retired. When I upload it I get an error message. Is there something that I need to install/do in order to get the site working? Or is there a way to convert what I have, easily without have to start from scratch?

    This is my backup structure:

    slam-wp-backup-original
    slam.2013-05-14_13.31.sql
    > wp-content
    > index.php
    > plugins
    > upgrade
    > uploads

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  • Hi there,

We are not able to work with standard server and SQL export files like this I’m afraid. To explain, that kind of backup is created by self-hosted WordPress sites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

Those kinds of traditional hosting providers use the free open-source version of the WordPress software, which is different than the custom version we use on our cloud-based platform. Because of those customizations we can’t work with that specific type of export.

The good news is if you are looking for a good web host to deploy those files one, we recommend the following providers to help get you up and running:

    Hosting

That said, most major web hosting providers will work, so you can just ask if the one you are interested in supports WordPress and if they are able to work with those files. Hope this helps point you in the right direction!
