301 redirect

  Hi
  I’m redirecting my blog (http://smsfguide.wordpress.com/) to http://smsfguide.net

  I was told that the 301 redirect will redirect all the backlinks to my site so that it will bring my site to the same ranking as my blog in google. Normally how long would it take for my site to be shown up on the same spot as my wordpress blog?

  It can take 24 – 72 hours for the changes to propagate throughout the internet.

  but will my site eventually show up in google?

  or it will always show only my wordpress blog in google then when people click on it, it will redirect to my site?

  When search engines see the redirects, and see that they are 301 (permanent), they will start replacing the old links with the new ones and your search engine ranking will start moving over to your new URL. It can take a little time for that to happen, perhaps 3-6 months, but it will eventually all move over. The search engines work on their own schedules, so there is no way to make things go faster.

  3-6 months… oh that’s quite a long time..
  But I can see now google is doing something, as my wordpress blog is gone off the list :(
  Hope my site will soon go back up
