500 – Internal server error. When guests post comments

  • Unknown's avatar

Whenever guests attempt to post comments on my blog (http://blog.zepolworkz.com) they get the following error:

    500 – Internal server error.
There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

I tried deactivating all plugins to no avail. I’m not sure if it is related bu I only started to notice this coming up when I recently updated my install to WordPress 2.6.2

    Any thoughts? Thanks

Since you are self-hosted and using the software downloaded from wordpress.ORG, you need to direct your question to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . This forum is for users of WordPress.COM, the free hosting service, and it uses a modified multi-user version of the software which is different from what you are using and few, if any, here know anything about it.

    WordPress.com or WordPress.org? The difference.

thank you sacredpath. Will note that in the future :)

I sort of fixed the problem.

Here’s the solution if anyone is interested.

I had the blue-mist theme installed and had the setting “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” checked. When I tried going to the default theme, the real problem was that the user was expected to be logged in (DUH) but this was not indicated using the blue-mist theme.

Long story short, I unchecked the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” setting.

You’re welcome and I’m glad you got it figured out. Strand that it would do a 500 internal server error instead of saying the commenter must be logged in and displaying the login window. Perhaps a bug with the theme.
