A and C record
-
Hi. Can you please change a and c record for my domain jaimerobertsonphotography.com as follows?
You can read what I mean at the wordpress.com forum: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-need-help-pointing-my-domain-to-zenfolio?replies=36Thanks @auxclass. I got this response from Zenfolio through email:
Quote:
Zenfolio is not a domain registrar or domain host, so you will need to keep it hosted with your current registrar or transfer it to another domain host. This will allow you to host the domain on your registrars nameservers. After which you can have it point to your Zenfolio website. Please see the following link for a video walk-through on how to point your custom domain over:
http://help.zenfolio.com/customer/portal/articles/408210In any case, when your domain is hosted, to break it down:
You need to have only 1 A Record, and it needs to point to our IP Address, so it will look like:Host: @ Points to: 64.62.158.18
(for some domain registrars, it looks like Host: yourdomain.com Points To: 64.62.158.18)
(or Source: @ Destination: 64.62.158.18)and the CNAME should read exactly:
Host: www Points to: custom.zenfolio.com
(for some domain registrars, it looks like Host: http://www.yourdomain.com Points to: custom.zenfolio.com)
(or Source: www Destination: custom.zenfolio.com)**Please note that you need to type the word “custom” in the CNAME destination, do not replace this word with your username.
After you make this change, it can take up to a full 48 hours for things to resolve properly, so I would suggest checking back periodically by trying to add it into your Zenfolio Preferences…and if after 48 hours it still doesn’t resolve, please send me a screenshot of your A Record and CNAME section of your domain registrar account and I can take a closer look for you.
Here is a link with instruction on how to take a screenshot if needed:
Thanks!

Hi there,
I just updated the DNS records for your domain http://jaimerobertsonphotography.com/ as requested. Please note that it can take 48-72 for these changes to take effect everywhere.
You should be able to finish pointing your domain to Zenfolio by adding the custom domain in your settings there. This is outlined in step 2 on this page: http://help.zenfolio.com/customer/portal/articles/407986-a-record-cname
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Great, thank you!
If WordPress.com controls the DNS records for jaimerobertsonphotography.com, how can I create an email account using that domain – (email visible only to moderators and staff) for example? -
Hi there,
WordPress.com doesn’t offer email hosting service, but if you set up email service with an email hosting provider you can set up email accounts with your custom domain. You’ll just need to enter the DNS records from your email hosting provider here at WordPress.com to make the email work.
Because your domain is now pointed away from WordPress.com, the DNS records for your email will have to be entered directly into your domain manager. If you can get the DNS records from your email hosting provider, I’d be happy to help you get them entered on this end. :)

We are using zoho for email hosting. Let me know if this is the info you need:

Hi there,
Thanks for sending that information! I entered the information Zoho requested, and it should take effect in about 1-2 hours. Please wait a couple hours and then log in to your Zoho Mail Control Panel and click Verify.
Let me know what additional information they provide to set up your email records, and I’ll be happy to help further. :)

I made a mistake. I’m sorry. I didn’t understand what Zoho actually was. Is it possible to use my gmail account to receive/send email from (email visible only to moderators and staff) instead of Zoho?

Hi there,
We offer Email Forwarding that lets you use a custom domain with your regular email account (such as Gmail), but that only works if your custom domain is pointed here at WordPress.com. Since your domain is pointed to Zenfolio, our email forwarding feature won’t work.
You’ll need to set up some kind of email hosting service to use email with your custom domain. If you use Zoho, you might be able to have Zoho forward your emails to your Gmail account so you can send/receive emails from there. You’ll need to check with Zoho to see what your options are for that.
If you don’t want to use Zoho, and you like the Gmail interface, you could set up a Google Apps account instead. We have instructions for linking Google Apps with your custom domain here: Add Email through Google Apps
Let me know if I can provide any further help with that.
-
Zoho won’t work. I want to have my email go to Gmail. I set up a Google Apps account but I did not get the option to select a domain registrar upon set up. Google Apps wants me to verify on Go Daddy that I own the domain jaimerobertsonphotography.com. Any ideas?
-
When Google Apps asks you to verify on Go Daddy, does it give you a code starting with google-site-verification? If so, you can use that same code to verify your domain through WordPress.com. If you don’t see that code right away, you can look for a verification option to “Create a TXT record” to find it.
If you have that code, you can send it to me and I’ll be happy to enter it on this end for you to help verify your site.
If you can’t find the code starting with google-site-verification on Google Apps, can you make a screenshot of the options you do see there? You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy to share the screenshot with me. That will help me understand what’s going on.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi, thank you for the response. Google Apps is not providing the options you described above.
I uploaded a pdf entitled Google Apps Domain page to my media library. The pop up window text is readable if you look at it carefully.
Under “get help with domains” there is the following option, but I don’t have access to the domain DNS records. Do you?
Create TXT records
Use TXT records to verify domain ownership or employ security measures, such as DKIM, DMARC, and SPF. You create TXT records using the administration tools available from your domain provider, not the Google Admin console. The basic steps below are applicable to all domain providers. Creating a TXT record does not disrupt your current mailflow or affect other existing services.
You can create or modify TXT records using the administration tools available from your domain host, not the Google Admin console. The basic steps below are applicable to all domain hosts that support TXT records. The exact steps for doing so are slightly different for each host. See TXT records for specific domain providers. You may need to identify your domain host first.
To configure TXT records for a domain:
1. Sign in to the domain host’s administrative console for your domain.2. Locate the page on which you can update the domain DNS records.
The page is typically called something like DNS Management, Name Server Management, or Advanced Settings.
3. Locate the TXT records for your domain. You may have one or more TXT records resembling:
Name / Host / Alias Time to Live (TTL) Record Type Value / Answer / Destination
Blank or @ 86400 TXT v=spf1 ip4:123.123.123.123 ~all
4. Optionally, reduce the Time to Live (TTL) to 300 seconds for every existing TXT record. This tells name servers across the internet to check every 300 seconds (or five minutes) whether you updated these DNS records. This allows you to apply changes to your DNS records much more quickly. Also, if necessary, you can revert any DNS record changes a lot quicker when you’ve set a low TTL.Any DNS record change will apply only after the initial TTL of that record expires. For example, a value of 86400 seconds = 1440 minutes = 24 hours before any update will be applied. This also means that you need to wait 24 hours after the TTL of a DNS record is updated once you change it to 300 from 86400.
5. Either update an existing TXT record to reuse it or create a new record with the name and value shown for your use in TXT record values. Multiple TXT records are supported.
6. Save your changes and wait until they take effect.
Be aware it may take up to 72 hours before changes are propagated, depending on the TTL that was configured for your TXT records.
If you have difficulty, try to troubleshoot TXT records. Then contact your domain host for assistance.Thank you for your patience and time to help my not-so-technical self!

Hi there,
It looks like Google made some changes to the verification process that we didn’t know about — sorry about that! I’m looking into this for you and will give you an update as soon as I have more information.
-
Hi there, I checked the steps for verifying your site, so let’s walk through them. If anything is unclear please let me know!
- Open your Google Apps admin and start the verification process (so you get the “Verify your domain” pop up window).
- When it asks to take you to GoDaddy.com, click the No button: https://cloudup.com/coKN0qCeJ2r
- On the next page, open the “Select domain provider” drop-down list and select Other: https://cloudup.com/cimA9O1sW63
- Click “Begin verification” to continue.
- You should see a “Recommended method” page for verifying your domain. Ignore the steps on that page and just look for the “google-site-verification” code: https://cloudup.com/cUJ6unZBnHB
- Copy that code and paste it here in a reply.
Don’t worry about creating the DNS record — I’m happy to do that for you once I have your google site verification code. :)
