A Couple Of Domain Queries

  Can anyone please advise ?

  If we purchase a private domain such as http://www.private-domain.com, visitors
  would be diverted via http://www.private-domain.wordpress.com before they arrived
  at the private address, ok ?

  1. We know that having your own domain name on your blog/website helps it’s
  popularity with the search engines. Will this still be the case here, or
  will this diversion set up have a negative effect ?

  2. If we want to have a single private domain without any divertions, will
  we have to arrange this outside wordpress with another company ?

  I’m a newbie so I’m not sure how all this works.

  1) Not necessarily true. If you had a blog for a while it takes some time for search engines to pick it up again with the new domain.

  2) I purchased and set up my domain with another cCompany. I read that you can do this through wp.com but I’m not familiar with the process.
