A 'follower' named 'BlookUp'
-
There is a ‘follower’ called ‘Blookup’ that follows blogs and then collects the blogs and offers to sell them to the authors as a book or collection. I assume you (WordPress) have given this entiy permission to do this? Please provide me a reference for this activity and where did I agree to allow this for my blog materials? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
that is not something we have condoned or approved.
I would encourage you to report it here:
-
i am unable to report this to WordPress using the checklist forms via that link provided. The form reports back that the entity “Blookup” is not using WordPress but it clearly is as it has a WordPress statement at the bottom of their Blog. And they are “following” me on my WordPress Blog
http://www.blookup.com/fr/blog/
Please advise what steps can be taken to remove this entity as a follower. It is clearly a hack of some kind.

It doesn’t appear that the above site is hosted here on WordPressdotcom. Therefore, I’m not certain what Automattic, WordPressdotcom’s parent company, can do other than perhaps banning the specific user account that was used to follow your site. It won’t prevent them from creating a new account.
There are other blog-to-print sites out there. If this particular one has actually collected your content without your permission, you can file a DMCA takedown with their hosting provider, which seems to be OVH SAS

justjennifer has given you accurate information. The link I posted earlier only applies to WordPress.com users/sites. We have no control over sites that are not on our servers, I’m afraid.

Exactly how does someone who is not on WordPress “like” my WordPress Blog, I would like to know. Please put me in touch with the WordPress legal department as I am complaining about illegal activity which you are telling me you have no control over on your servers. I have a screenshot of this entity’s WordPress page claiming to be on WordPress. How can I send it to them? Please point me to the WordPress agreement where this type of questionable activity is mentioned to warn us WordPress users.

Hi again,
Exactly how does someone who is not on WordPress “like” my WordPress Blog, I would like to know.
Anyone can sign up for a WordPressdotcom/Gravatar account. All that is required is that they have an email address.
Since you know Blookup’s Gravatar username, you can go to their Gravatar profile and report them for abuse while you are logged in with your WordPressdotcom account. There is a report abuse link at the bottom of the profile sidebar.
I have a screenshot of this entity’s WordPress page claiming to be on WordPress.
Looking at Blookup’s website I see they are using the standalone WordPress software and a theme that was authored by WordPressdotcom. This is not the same as being hosted by WordPressdotcom.
Maybe you should consider contacting Blookup directly with your complaint. If you want to take legal action, you can contact Blookup’s webhost which is OVH SAS.
Cheers and best wishes.

This is a very odd business plan you have here to leave the user and potential buyer of your services wide open to illicit, predatory undesirables. Yet you are unable to let me remove a “follower” of questionable tactics whom I have reported and whose actions you do not condone or approve of. Maybe run that by your legal department and see what they say.

Yet you are unable to let me remove a “follower” …
If all you want to do is remove this follower from your site, you can do so by going here: https://wordpress.com/people/followers/ssangsite.wordpress.com and clicking the REMOVE link on the right. Again, there is nothing preventing them from signing up to follow your site again.

@ssang98765 Jen’s information is correct.
You could also make your site private (not publicly available) if you want to be sure no nefarious individuals can follow it. That way you can invite only the followers you do want, though they would need to be signed in to view it.
That’s done here: https://wordpress.com/settings

Hi JustJennifer:
Thank you for that easy solution to my dilemma. The only references to removing a follwer I could find on the internet indicated that doing so was not possible. Perhaps an updated FAQ/User Tutorial would be of assistance.I find some of the comments almost humerous…let’s see a show of hands for those who think “nefarious” activity is okay as apparently you are aware of same happening here on a routine basis. SMH.

Hopefully this will help next time :)

@ssang98765 – you’re welcome and as @supernovia mentioned, our Support site is really the best place to look for information. https://en.support.wordpress.com/
Best wishes from me.
