A small edit of the homepage
-
For starters I would like to remove the text frome the standard template that says “just another wordpress blog” why is this denigrating phrase even on the homepage in the first place?
My needs are simple. I post articles which I have written to the local newspaper. My attempts to read in depth the For Dummies book just gave me a headache.

Change your tag line
Dashboard >> Settings >> General >> change tag line to what ever you want – should be the line below where you changed the title

Thanks. I check it out. I find that changing one thing at a time without a whole gulp is easier for me to grasp.
Any alternatives to Word Press For Dummies?
These tend to be kitchen sink books meaning like looking for a needle in a haystack.

WordPress for Dummies was the book I used when I started – I also spend a lot of time just reading the help forums.
Intro videos and help here: http://learn.wordpress.com/
Then there is the support documents – still a bit like a needle in a haystack thing: http://en.support.wordpress.com/ but a lot if info.

I have found dashboard under my login name
Where is General? I do not see it. Why are these things not in some order along the top?
Why should I have click on the login name to even *see* the dashboard tab? -
Dashboard >> Settings >> General
When you are at the main Dashboard page – the “Settings” is at the bottom of the list on the left side – when you click on Settings it will open to the General Tab.
-
Done.
On my screen “Settings” is so far down I missed it since it was off the main screen entirely.
Settings > General should cure many ills.
Thanks for your patience.
