Hi @bridalhairinhampshire, you have a few options for adding a CAPTCHA depending on what kind of form is getting spammed:
1. If it’s your contact form, the built-in WordPress.com contact form block has spam protection through Akismet enabled automatically. Most spam should already be getting filtered before it reaches you. If you’re still getting a lot through, let me know which form block you’re using (Contact Form, Form, or a third-party plugin) and I can point you in the right direction.
2. If you want a visible CAPTCHA on the form, you’ll need to install a plugin like hCaptcha or Google reCAPTCHA. Plugins are available on every WordPress.com paid plan, so as long as you’re on any paid plan you can go to Plugins, then Add New in your dashboard, search for “hCaptcha” or “reCAPTCHA,” and install. If you’re still on the free plan, you’ll need to upgrade to any paid tier first.
3. If it’s comment spam on blog posts, go to your dashboard, then Settings, then Discussion, and make sure “Comment author must fill out name and email” and the Akismet anti-spam options are enabled. That handles the vast majority of comment spam without needing a CAPTCHA at all.
To point you to the right answer, can you share:
- Whether you’re on the free plan or a paid plan
- Where the spam is coming in (contact form, comments, or somewhere else)
With that I can give you specific steps. Best of luck!
