    Can I design my website on wordpress and get the source code to host it on a different hosting platform?

    Hi there, If you set up a free site here on WPcom, you’d be able to create a site, add content and media and then export your site content (posts, pages, comments, media) but not the theme, widgets, scripts, plugins and the like. https://wordpress.com/support/export/

    You’d only be able to do something like what you describe with the open source WP software installed locally on your computer or at a site like localwp.

    For help with localhost installs and the WP software in general, head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.
