About The plugins that business plan offers for free

    Hi.
    I am looking for a proper CMS to build a website and have done some research so far.
    I noticed that if I subscribe to the business plan on WordPress.com I will be able to access some plugins for free. For instance, I search for the ‘Event Calendar’ plugin. It was said it will be free after the business plan subscription. In the meantime, I went to the event Calendar website directly (https://theeventscalendar.com/products/wordpress-events-calendar/)and noticed that they offer this plugin for free besides having a pro version for $99 per year.
    Now I am wondering, is the plugin that WordPress offers the same as the free version or the pro version that the event calendar website offers?

    Hi there,

    A good analogy to use here is to think of your WordPress.com site as similar to your smartphone.

    On your smartphone, I am sure you are familiar with free apps. But also that some apps are free but offer a premium version with more features that you can upgrade to. Also, some apps have no free version, so the only way to get that app is to pay for it.

    On WordPress, plugins are very much the same. Some plugins are free, and some offer both free and paid versions. In this case, the company that makes the Events Calendar plugin offers a free version with most of the functionality folks will need. However, they also offer a premium version of their plugin that includes all the advanced functionality that only some site owners will need.

    It’s your choice as to which you want to use. If the plugin developer offers both, you can usually start with the free one and then upgrade later if the plugin’s premium version has the functionality you need.

    Your WordPress.com Business Plan includes the ability to upload plugins but does not include what those plugin developers charge for a premium version.
