Access to Dropbox

I need to allow users to browse folder for files in my media library or better still files held in a Dropbox account – is this possible on WordPress? I know i can add the PDFs into the media library and add pages that will link to the individual files, but that will be quite time consuming. Help!

We are working on such a feature, but it might take a little while before this will be released. For now you can only upload files from your computer.
Uploading files on your WordPress.com site only allows you to insert a download link to a file. If you wish to embed the actual document into a post or page, you can use external services such as Scribd or Slideshare.

Is there an alternative where a user could drill down through the library and into folders and so on to get the file they are after?

You can follow the steps in this guide on how your users can add files to pages and posts. They can choose to either drag and drop it into the media uploader, or browser into folders and select the file.
