I created an account with a email address I don’t own set up and launched a site, then created a new account with the email address I do own. I was confused as to why this account wasn’t connected to the site and realized I had signed in with an email I didn’t own. Because I already had an account with the email address I wanted it to be the site wouldn’t let me change it. I tried deleting the account with the email address I had made but It still wouldn’t allow me to change it. I have now been signed out of the first account I made under the wrong email and cannot delete it what should I do next?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, when you delete an account, WPcom locks that account’s email address for 30 days in case you want to recover the account.

I’m not sure which account you’ve deleted, but if it is the one with the correct email address, reply to the email you received from WordPress.com and restore that account.

After you’ve restored that deleted account, log on to WordPress.com and then change the email address on that account to something else. If you are using gmail, you can create a “sub email address” by adding +something to your email address. So instead of myemail(at)gmail(dot)com, you would use myemail+something(at)gmail(dot)com

That should free up the correct email address so you can use it on the other account. https://wordpress.com/support/email-address/

Alternatively wait 30 days from deletion for the correct email address to become available.

Hope that’s clear, but post back here if you have any questions.

The problem I am facing now is that I don’t have access to the first account I made as it requires email verification from an email I don’t have access to.

Hi @etkeleher! Thanks for letting us know about this.

In that case, if you don’t have access to the email address linked to that account, you’ll need to go through our account recovery process so we can help you regain access to it. You can find more information here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/

However, if you’re unable to provide the information required to complete the account recovery process, the remaining option would be to request that the site be made private, as explained here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any extra help, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Hello, @elcristofue, I am encountering the same issue and have already completed filling the form.

The reference number is #11320518. It’s been more than 24 hours but I still haven’t got any reply yet.

I have already provided the Transaction number from the form and I need to transfer the site and the membership plan from voicestudio@gmail to voicestudiohk@gmail this account.

To prove that it it my site, previously when I am editing the site, the top right hand corner has the lick that can directly shoot to my instagram account voicestudio_hk. pictures I used to edit in my site is my current studio environment.

please let me know if this issue can be tackled as soon as possible, thank you.

I don’t have a traditional proof of ownership for account recovery but the site attached to the account lists my email address (email visible only to moderators and staff) and not the email attached to the account. Would this be enough to show that I didn’t mean to use that email? thanks :D

@etkeleher add all that information directly to the Account recovery form, as well as the email address where you can be reached. Best wishes.

Since the site is linked to an account using an email address you don’t own, you’ll likely need help from the platform’s support team.

    Here’s what I’d do:

    • Contact support and explain that you accidentally created the site under the wrong email address.
    • Provide proof that you own the site (billing information, domain ownership, site details, etc.).
    • Tell them the correct email address you want associated with the site.
    • Mention that you’ve already created a second account with the correct email and can no longer access the original one.

If the account was created with an email you cannot access, you generally won’t be able to recover or modify it yourself. Support is usually the only way to transfer ownership or update the account email in this situation.
