I bought my domain on BlueHost a few years back and used WordPress.com for the website hosting. I transferred my domain to Squarespace yesterday and now the url directs to a 404 Squarespace page and I can’t login on WordPress to export my old content! Help! Is it gone forever? I have 2 years of blog posts and media I wanted to download and export to my new Squarespace site.

    URL: kearalorraine.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What was the underlying .WordPress.com URL that you were mapping from to the domain URL which you purchased from tucows

I don’t think I understand the question? I bought kearalorraine.com from BlueHost, set it up on wordpress and then transferred it to squarespace. I haven’t purchased a website package from squarespace yet I just have the domain there.

  • Hi there,

The domain, kearalorraine.com, has never been hosted on WordPress.com. You were using the WordPress.org software to run the site, but the site’s files were hosted with a specific hosting provider – based on the name servers with https://ns1.com/. The site is connected to your WordPress.com account via the Jetpack plugin, but none of that site’s content is on our servers.

I transferred my domain to Squarespace yesterday and now the url directs to a 404 Squarespace page and I can’t login on WordPress to export my old content!

You will need to point your domain back to your previous hosting provider so you can log into the WP-Admin dashboard again. Once you’ve done that you can export your content and import it to your Squarespace site. Only once that process is complete should you cancel your hosting and switch the domain over to Squarespace.

As we are neither your domain nor your hosting provider, we cannot help with any of this. You’ll need to contact the respective providers you pay for the domain’s registration and your WordPress site’s hosting to help you reconnect the domain where it needs to be.
