Account Deletion, Domain Name

  Ok, I’ll try to explain this the best I can, as I am new to this whole process.
  I am trying to set up a blog, and don’t really know what I’m doing. I wanted to self host, but accidentally set up a paid account on wordpress.com instead of wordpress.org. Once I realized my mistake, I cancelled the paid subscription and deleted my .com account. I know the URL web address with the .wordpress.com extension cannot be used again, but it seems that I cannot use the domain even without the .wordpress.com extension attached to it. So my question is, is there any way to get my domain name back? I did all of this with the past hour or so, so is there any way to reverse any of it so that I can use the original domain on another site?

  Hi there,

  I assume you’re speaking of globalgalavanters.com? We can still restore that domain, and the free WordPress.com address can also be restored for 30 days after deletion, so I just need you to confirm that that’s the one and I can take care of it for you.

  However, there will be a 60 day wait before you can transfer the domain to another host. You will be able to point the domain to another host and use it there, but the registration will have to stay with us for 60 days before you can transfer it completely. In that case I will also need to send you a link to pay for the domain again, as your original payment has already been refunded.

  If you’re planning to use the domain with another host and can afford to wait a few days, I’d recommend that instead. The domain should be released by early next week, at which point you can register it directly where you want to use it.

  There is always the risk that someone else will register the domain once it’s released, but that risk is very small for a brand new domain.

  Yes, that is the domain I’m speaking about.
  I can wait a few days. Just to clarify, all I would need to do is wait until the domain is released, and then register it with whoever I choose?

  @ls55720 right, you’ll wait til the cancellation completes (typically about 5 days after your cancellation, if you cancel early like you did) then register it at the new provider.
