  Hi, I’m trying to recover an old WordPress.com account, but I’m stuck.

  My account still exists publicly and I can see my blog and posts, but when I try to log in or recover it, it says “account not found” for both my username and email.

  I can open my profile through links on my Instagram and Twitter, but that doesn’t log me in.

  I also still have my original activation email, but using the link created a new account instead of restoring my old one.

  I don’t have access to purchase receipts or MFA.

  Can someone advise how I can recover the original account? Thanks.

  Hi there!

  The Account Recovery form at wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery accepts that activation URL as proof of ownership — but you need to paste the link into the form rather than click it.
  
  You can try the following:

  1. Go back to your original activation email and right-click the confirmation button (or link), then choose “Copy Link Address” — don’t click it.
  2. Head to the Account Recovery form.
  3. Check the box next to “Do you have an activation URL or key?” and paste the link into that field.
  4. Fill in whatever else you can and submit.
