account owner has passed away

    My colleague hosted my business website from his wordpress account; his account hosted two websites which were his and then mine. He made me an admin on my website so i can edit my website. However, i do not have access to his wordpress account as the owner. The platform is provided by 1&1, which he is the account holder of. I do not have access to this account with 1&1. The domain name for my website also belongs to the account holder, my colleague. My colleague also provided me with my own personal 1&1 email account although, obviously, he is the owner of this account also.

    The account owner passed away unexpectedly.

    I need to transfer the website over to my own wordpress account. How can i do this if i do not have access to the wordpress account that my website belongs to, i only have access as admin to my website? Next, how do i transfer the domain name over to my own wordpress account’s website if i do not have access to the account it currently belongs to? The domain name is hosted by 1&1 because 1&1 provides the platform, so is it 1&1 that i will need to contact regarding the transfer of my domain name, or is it wordpress, or both? I assume that the 1&1 webmail account will be managed and accessed from the owner’s wordpress account … or will the owner access their account, to manage both the website, webmail and linked domains, from their 1&1 account?

    Any help on how to get started would be really appreciated.
