Account recovery impossible – Gravatar-only account has no WordPress.com site
-
I am locked out of a different WordPress.com account because of 2FA. I still have access to the registered email address, can receive login codes and password-reset emails, and I have the original WordPress.com activation URL as proof of ownership.
The account was created solely for Gravatar and has never had a WordPress.com blog or site associated with it.
Unfortunately, this creates a circular account-recovery problem:
Recovery requires the Account Recovery form → the form requires a WordPress.com site → this account has no site → the form cannot be submitted.
Attempting to resolve this through the WordPress.com Help Center. The support available to me was entirely AI-driven, with no option I could find to contact a human. I specifically asked the AI assistant to escalate the issue or connect me with a human, and it told me it had no ability to do either. Its only suggestion was to post in this support forum.
That creates another problem: I cannot log into the affected account to post in the forum because being unable to log into that account is the reason I need support in the first place. I have therefore had to use a different WordPress.comaccount simply to post this request for help.
So I am effectively stuck in a loop:
I can’t submit the recovery form because the account has no WordPress.com site → I can’t reach a human through the Help Center → the AI cannot escalate the issue → and its only alternative is a forum I can’t access using the affected account.
I have access to the account’s registered email address and the original activation email with activation URL, but I obviously do not want to post private account information or proof of ownership publicly.
Could a WordPress.com staff member please provide a private way for me to submit my proof of ownership so that a HUMAN can review the account and help me regain access?
Thank you.
