Account Recovery without access to previous email
-
I am trying to recover (or realistically remove/delete) an old WordPress website I created for a college class that is attached to my name. However, the email I had previously was the school email that is no longer active and not able to get the recovery email that it sends. I have my old username, but do not have the password. So far the only option is to get a recovery email, and when trying to “report” the website to be taken down it just prompts me to try recovering it. Anyone have suggestions on what to do?

Hello
Unfortunately, a deletion must come from a verified owner – or anyone could take down someone else’s website.
If you have tried all the methods here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/ and can not get into your account, try the link below. This guide has info on what to do if you can not get access to the account: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established
You can request the site be set to private. -
Thank you for the help, how do you request/set the site to private? Can that be done without access to it?
I know it cannot be deleted without proper owner access, I have the username, but not the password or access to the email it is registered with. Any way to access it from there?

I’m tagging in Staff to help with setting it to private.
I understand you don’t have access to the email but the first link I gave you has a recovery form but you need to have other proof listed. -
Hi @jollycreationcf6aaba318!
If I understand correctly, you’d like to regain access to an old account but don’t have access to the email address linked to it. Is that right?
Also, could you share the domain name of the site you’d like to delete? If that’s the case and you’re unable to access the email associated with your account, I recommend trying our account recovery method by following this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/
There, you’ll find the information needed to verify ownership of the account. Once you regain access, you’ll be able to make your site private or delete it, depending on what you prefer.
If you don’t have the documentation required to complete the recovery process, you can still request to have the site made private. You can read more about that here:
https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/verify-ownership/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need any additional assistance. We’re happy to help!

This is my website on WordPress https://osogroup.co.uk/ I have lost the login for it and I can’t find it. Can anyone tell me how I can log in to my website in WordPress now?

Hi there, @servicebacklink116!
Thanks for sharing the link.
I took a look at your site, osogroup.co.uk, and it appears to be a self-hosted WordPress site. This means it’s hosted with a separate provider, not on WordPress.com. Since these forums are for WordPress.com sites, our access is a bit limited when it comes to self-hosted setups.
That said, here are a few things you can try:
- Go directly to your login page:
https://osogroup.co.uk/wp-admin
This should take you to the WordPress login screen. - Use the “Lost your password?” option on that page to reset your password. You’ll need access to the email address linked to your account.
- If you no longer have access to that email, the best next step is to contact your hosting provider. They manage your server and can help you reset your password or regain access to your site. Based on this check:
https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/https://osogroup.co.uk
your site is currently hosted with Namecheap, so you can reach out to them for further assistance.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction.
