Can I change this domain from the paid account to the free account without loosing content and if so please provide instructions. I just got a renewal notification and I would like to switch back to the free WordPress account if possible as I am not using this domain as much as I thought I would.

Is it possible you made your purchase under a different login? I can confirm that your domain is registered at WordPress.com but is under a different account and not your @majtmk login.
