Account retrieval

I’ve had a blog since 2010, primarily to showcase my writing work; however, I haven’t accessed it in some while, which I now need to do.

I’ve tried to reset the password but the link is being sent to an unknown address, I’ve checked all I have access to, but nothing. I know the original email address but I think I changed that in 2016. The very unhelpful social media person told me to retrieve the account using the WP portal; however, I can’t provide the 3 specific proofs of ownership they want (I have plenty of other proof). Any idea how I can contact someone in WP customer service to help?

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of the site you are referring to?

Is it a WordPress.com hosted site?

It is. The URL is https://blaiddda.wordpress.com

Are you able to help, please?

  • I can see several password reset requests for that account, and our logs show the reset emails were sent, and were accepted by the email provider for that address. So if you have access to the correct email, you should see those in the inbox, though they might have been filtered to spam, so also check there.

Failing a password reset, the account recovery process at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/ is the only way you can regain access to the account that owns that site.

If you don’t have any of the forms of verification required on that form, we cannot give you access to the site. These rules are in place to prevent unauthorised access to WordPress.com accounts, and we do not make any exceptions in this regard.

Not even a hint of which account they’ve gone to? How would that in any way threaten the security of the site? I just need to access my creative writing blog – we’re not talking Pentagon level here!

It’s really disappointing that, after a decade of using WP, I’m being treated like this!

  • I just sent a note to the email on the account that you wish to recover. If you receive that email then write back to me directly there. This is a last resort and we really aren’t able to do more if you don’t have access to the email address on the account. With out sufficient proof of ownership as mentioned this is all we can do.
