account setting

My client has domain mapping purchased that is going to renew June 28. I am struggling to see how that is going to be billed, and to whom. I have attempted to enter my credit card to cover this cost, but keep getting an error.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

What is the site URL or the domain with the mapping subscription? You should be able to Manage Purchases > Billing History , scroll down to where it says Manage Your Credit Cards and add the new card there. Is that where you are receiving the error? Are you receiving an error message?

Yes. The error is: User or Token does not have access to specified subscription.

  • What is the site URL?

You receive that message because you are not the owner of the site. Payment method for the upgrades can only be changed by the owner of the site. If you can log into your clients account, you can add your credit card that way.

    Thanks,

Logging into my site, then -> switch site to my client’s site, -> In the sidebar is Manage domains -> Click on mapped domain -> Click on payment settings must be different than logging into my client’s account.
I can not see another pathway to log into my client’s account. It seemed I was on the right path, but apparently not.
Can you tell me what I am missing?

  • What is the URL of the site you’re trying to renew?

rmrega.wordpress.com is my client that I switch to after I log in.
rmrega.org is the mapping they have purchased, and that I am attempting to change the payment method for.

  • Ok, the domain mapping is owned by a different account, possibly the client’s.

You’ll need to be logged in under _that_ account to change the payment method.

This site goes back earlier than 2014, and has had multiple developers. They are a club with limited technical experience. I believe their early developer must have set up an account, but I understand she passed away. The next developer retired and passed this on to me, and I thought I had access to all I needed. What options do I have for a solution here? Should I let this expire, and is there a way for me to re-purchase domain mapping for them? Or since I don’t really have a way to access their account, can that not happen?

  • On first glance, the account does appear to be a general account belonging to the organization. I can’t confirm that of course, but the name seems to suggest this.

Your best bet would be to recover access to that account if you have the right information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/#account-recovery-form

We similarly can’t cancel a purchased product without hearing from the account that owns it.

We consider purchased products to be owned by the account that purchased them, unless that account specifically transferred ownership to another account.

Okay, some of the required information is not available. I am going to have to hope someone in the club might have that.
