Add a Domain

I have a domain name that I own, and I’d like to be able to transfer the content of my blog to this new domain name (stc-scfoothills.org) – right now I have the .org page redirected to the stcscfoothills.wordpress.com site. Obviously, this isn’t the best plan.
I went to the Domains page on my dashboard, and there is a place to add a domain to the blog (accompanied by a great big blue “Add Domain to Blog” button. There is a link on the page to read more about the process. Unfortunately, the link is broken and I can’t find the appropriate resources on the site anywhere. I’m sure they’re there somewhere, I just don’t really understand what I’m looking for. What will “adding a domain” to my blog do for me? Will it make my blog visible from my .org url? If so, how will it affect things like authorship and permissions?
I’m so confused and I really don’t know where to look for help. Someone, anyone…please??? :)
