Add private domain

  I accidentally hit ‘cancel private registration’ and now I cannot see the domain name I purchases. It keeps telling me I have to re-purchase the domain name I just purchased? How do I just get a full refund?

  Hi there,

  So that we are on the same page, once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  Did canceling my subscription also cancel my ownership of the domain? If so, I do not see it as available in other web hosting sites. Do I have to wait to see the availability elsewhere like on GoDaddy or on Google domains?

  If I am still the owner, is there a way to see details to initiate a transfer? Since I cancelled the subscription it no longer shows up under the “Domains” tab for me to act on.

  Yes it did.

  As I mentioned previously, if you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.
