Adding already owned domain

  Hi! I’m having trouble adding my domain name to my WordPress site. I already own this domain through Google Domains. I also configured the DNS to allow the authorize the WordPress servers. When I get to the checkout page in WordPress when upgrading my account to allow me to use my domain name, I am getting a notice that claims ‘This domain already exists and cannot be registered.’ How can I attach my domain to my account?

  Hi there,

  As you mentioned, the domain is already registered at Google Domains, so you do not need to register it with us here at WordPress.com. All you need to do is purchase mapping for the domain.

  In order to use your domain hosted elsewhere with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to change the domain nameservers at your domain host, and point them over to WordPress.com. Our nameservers are:

  NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
  NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
  NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

  Then, you’ll need to purchase the mapping subscription upgrade so that you can map your domain over to your WordPress.com site.
