Adding code to the blog post

I want to add a code to my blog posts.
I read lots of posts on how to do this. But nothing is clear. As a end consumer of wordpress, I am probably looking for some simple HOW-TO kind of step to add this. Doesn’t look to be an easy task.
Can someone point me to the precise step on how I can get this done? I wish there was an easier mechanism for this.

What code? Are you wanting to display the code in the posts for people to look at or are you wanting to install code that does something in the post?

After looking at your site, I suspect you want to display code samples. At wordpress.com, you use the sourcecode shortcodes to do that.

I want to display code in the posts for people to look at. I want it to look in a more organized way. For eg, in an organized way on how code is shown here – http://one-size-doesnt-fit-all.blogspot.com/2011/06/jdev-111140-afshowdetailitems-and.html
