Adding documents
-
I’m trying to add a PDF to one of my site but it tells me that format is not supported. I can add images but not documents. If I try to add it to my media file first, nothing seems to happen. I’m using the ‘Goran’ theme on the problem site and I have no problems with some of the other themes I’ve used. Is that where my problem lies? . I’d rather not mess about with a new theme, is there a solution? Many thanks for any help. Milton

We do support PDFs here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/
Make sure you’re following this process to upload them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/
If that doesn’t work, what is the URL of the affected site?

Many thanks for the links.
I am using the Blocks Editor and couldn’t solve my problem.
I have now switched to the Classic Editor and can see all the Pdf files I was trying to add to my media library. So in block editor I was actually uploading them but just couldn’t see them to be able to add to my page.

I stick to the classic editor for now unless the solution is a simple one
Thanks again

Hi Milton,
I’m able to add a document (pdf) using the File block on the Goran theme.
Were you using the File block or were you trying to attach a file some other way?

Many thanks for playing around with this. I’m not sure if a file block is something different to a normal block. But If I add from my media library the Pdf I can see in Classic editor just can’t be seen in Block editor.

A regular block is not the same as using a file block. Because PDFs are a file type you need to use the file block in order to add those to any page or post when using the block editor.

Many thanks for pointing that out – I’ve now discovered the block options via the + icon. All sorted.
I really appreciate everyone time, and patience with this
