adding to static front page and deleting note underneath pictures

    Dear clever WordPress users

    I am setting up a page and I really like the theme, but for some reason only three pictures are available on the static fron page, although there are five pages in the menu. How to add more ?
    Also underneath the pictures on the front pages it reads ‘This is just a short excerpt for the contact page.’ How to remove this?
    Thank you so much.. I have been searching for a few hours and trying to fix it but as I don’t know what there are called it is difficult!
