Adding websites in order to follow them.
-
Nothing happens after I copy a URL to add to my ‘follow list’. It doesn’t get added to the list.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi,
So you enter an URL at the Manage Followed Sites page, https://wordpress.com/following/edit, and then click the Follow button, and it isn’t added to the list?
-
Exactly as you stated.
I love this WordPress format. It’s the best; well, most of the time.
Thanks
-
The URL you add includes the http or https, correct? I’ve added a “modlook” tag to the sidebar to call for staff attention.
-
Hi @piscean2014, can you let us know what site you were trying to follow? We’ll take a look.
-
The following was the article, but the short URL afterward is the one I had tried to use to get home.
-
Okay, that site isn’t super obvious with its feed settings. Can you try using this link instead? I had to look in the source code to see it:
http://america.aljazeera.com/content/ajam/articles.rss -
I still have the original article on my screen, but through the WordPress window can’t bring that article up; the one about Texas Muslims.
As far as saving that site to my management page, that FINALLY seems to be working, but I still can’t seem to locate this article:

@supernovia,
Pardon me for butting in, supernovia. Perhaps the answer to the following question will get at the crux of the issue.
@piscena2014,
When did you follow the site http://www.aljazeera.com? The article you mention is dated 19 August 2016. If you followed the site after the article was published, it would not appear in your reader. Only posts published after you follow the site will appear in the reader. The Following Blogs support page says:When you follow a blog on WordPress.com, the new posts from that site will appear in your Reader, where you can view the latest posts published across the blogs you follow. You’ll also receive notifications of new posts by email.
-
I’m not really understanding this logic; how can one even know if an article is published until after it is published? I landed on this article and since don’t do FaceBook or those other social media formats, I chose WordPress from their list of formats. Once I got there, nothing worked.
That’s why I am here. And even though I had previously checked the box to stay logged in, here I was AGAIN, having to log back in to answer this.

how can one even know if an article is published until after it is published?
At WordPress.com, following a blog means following a website by receiving new posts published on the followed site, and (unless you opt out) email notifications of new posts, published after you began following the site. The follow option is not designed for following previously published posts, nor does it work retroactively, showing posts published before you followed the site.
You may follow the comments of a single post, but I believe notifications of new comments may only arrive by email. See the Following Comments support page.
-
One option would be to Like the post you refer to. Then it will appear in the My Likes section of the Reader.
Not sure if you can add a link to a post or page to a Reader list, but you could try that as well. See the Reader Lists support page.
-
So, for what it’s worth, I can see some of the older articles in the feed if I add them.
I don’t see the Texas Muslims one. But it also is not showing up here:
http://america.aljazeera.com/content/ajam/articles.rssSo I found this feed URL as well:
http://www.aljazeera.com/xml/rss/all.xmlWant to try that one instead?
-
@ supernovia,
So, for what it’s worth, I can see some of the older articles in the feed if I add them.
So I guess I was wrong in saying
nor does it work retroactively, showing posts published before you followed the site.
I’ll let you take it from here, because my experience with the Reader is virtually nil.
-
It’s all good, @musicdoc1 :) I really appreciate the effort. And I had to double check .. usually when I add items to a reader I read going forward, too.
This website just doesn’t have super clear RSS feeds. (Maybe they’ll consider wp.com VIP at some point :))
-
Not sure if this is relevant but the following is the link from just looking up “Muslim Texas and al Jazeera” as search parameters:
That one is far shorter than the address I had landed on before. I have tried to post on that site, but I guess I won’t really know if it works until and if I get any new contributions to the discussion. Yes?
-
I’m not sure whether that one would work.
Basically, when you paste in an URL, our reader tries to find an RSS or other type of feed link in it. For whatever reason, it’s struggling to find them on this site. But this link should do the trick, I think, since it links directly to their “all” feed.
