Additional charge fee for connecting Domain that I own

I bought a custom domain from a 3rd party (Niaga hoster) and tried to connect with wordpress which splendidly failed. Whenever I tried to connect my custom owned domain that I owned I was faced with 2 option; Transfer your domain (wait for 60 days) or Connect your domain which surprisingly included annual plans which I do not want. If I selected it, it takes me to a checkout cart which included WordPress.com Premium that is very costly. If I remove WordPress.com Premium from cart it automatically redirect me back to the wordpress home settings. The question is, is wordpress free in terms of connecting my custom domain to WordPress.com? Or is taking the WordPress.com Premium something that is compulsory?
Because I already spent money on a third party domain platform, and wishes not to spend anymore on wordpress.

    Thank you.

  • We have two ways you can use a domain you already own with a site here at WordPress.com:

Domain Connection allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

Both will require a paid plan, any paid plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
