I would like to provide some additional information.
Categories
Note that you must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM site to do what I post below.
The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
If the log-in information is lost you need to visit https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
The relevant support doc is Categories at https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
Setting the Default Category
https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#setting-the-default-category1. To edit or delete a category assigned to a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Dashboard → Posts → All Posts in your dashboard, hover over the title and click the Edit link. To delete the post click the Trash link.
For editing posts in the new editor see https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#go-back-and-edit-posts
2. To edit/delete categories in your dashboard go to Dashboard → Posts → Categories
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
3. To edit or delete dynamic category pages in your custom menu go to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
4. To edit or delete Tags go to
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with your actual blog’s name in that URL.
Re: tag spamming or spamdexing
The combined total of categories and tags assigned to any post must not exceed 15 or it will not display on WordPress.COM Categories and Tags pages and in the WordPress.COM Reader. Please you read this support doc closely http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
The classic mistakes new bloggers make are:
- assigning too many categories and tags
- assigning irrelevant categories and tags
Doing either or both of those results in search engines assuming you are a spamdexer or tag spammer and that means your content will be indexed and displayed in search results where the sun don’t shine.
The rule of thumb is to assign to your posts the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the individual post content. And, you never assign the same keyword or keyword phrase as both a category and a tag as all search engines consider both to be the same thing.
