Admin Unable to Access Private Blog
-
I am the administrator of my blog, and my blog is marked private. It will allow me into the dashboard, however, it won’t let me view my own blog! What’s causing this problem?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, when you say it won’t let you view your site, could you describe in more detail what happens? Do you see an error message, and if so, what does it say exactly?
Does this happen in different browsers or just Chrome? Have you tried logging out of and back into your account?

Thanks for your response. I did try to access this from another browser (Firefox) and everything works fine. Chrome is still acting up, and I’ve actually been having problems on a few other sites with Chrome as of late. Chrome is the browser I use most often, and I don’t usually have problems. I only downloaded Firefox today because of recent “hiccups” with Chrome.
But just for background on this question:
I previously had a blog (Quit the Cure) under a different username. I recently decided to begin a new blog (The Butterfly Mind) so I used a different username and email. I marked the new blog (The Butterfly Mind) private so that I could create the pages and a few posts in advance before marking it public.
A few weeks ago, I also made myself (as butterflymind9) admin of the old blog (Quit the Cure) which is now marked private, as well. I didn’t want to keep switching between accounts just to look at the posts on the old blog. (I don’t know if this is all relevant, but I thought I would include this just in case.)
So, when I went to WordPress yesterday, I was already signed in as butterflymind9 because I had commented on and signed up to follow someone else’s blog. But when I went to access The Butterfly Mind blog, that’s when I had trouble. I can view both the dashboard and the regular “live” blog for Quit the Cure with no problems. However, I can only access the dashboard for The Butterfly Mind. When I attempt to look at the “live” blog for The Butterfly Mind, I am brought to a sign-in screen and get the following message:
“http://thebutterflymind.org/ is marked private by its owner. If you were invited to view this site, please log in below. Read more about privacy settings.”
When I put in my butterflymind9 username and password (which should be considered the owner), I keep getting the same page and message. I tried signing out and in again, but still have the same results. I have tried clearing my cookies and history but nothing changes.
Again, this is working fine with Firefox and also Safari. So perhaps this is temporary issue with Chrome.

Thanks for the background on this. Have you tried clearing Chrome’s cache as well to see if it helps?

Yes, I have cleared everything. And I have cleared the data going back to the beginning.

Hi there, I’ve gone through the steps you describe below and am able to see the public side of thebutterflymind.org in Chrome, while logged in on your account, so it sounds to me like something may be not quite right in your browser.
Just to clarify this part:
When I attempt to look at the “live” blog for The Butterfly Mind, I am brought to a sign-in screen and get the following message:
Could you let me know exactly how you’re attempting to do that? Do you open a new tab in Chrome and manually paste in http://thebutterflymind.org ? Or are you clicking the link in the dashboard at the top left? http://cl.ly/image/1D0O2x0v0s0m
Have you tried Chrome on another computer that you may have access to?
If you don’t have access to another machine, and since you’ve already cleared Chrome’s cache and cookies, you may want to try a fresh reinstall of Chrome and see if that helps. Let me know how it goes!

Well, I found out that most of my problems as of late were from checking the box in my privacy settings called “Block third-party cookies and site data.” Once I unchecked that box, I found everything working fine on WordPress.
Originally, the problem came when I tried to view the blog. I could go into the dashboard for my blog, but when I clicked on the link (with the name of my blog) next to the WordPress icon (at the top left of the screen) that is when I was blocked from viewing the blog. The same thing happened if I just typed in the address. But now everything is working fine.
Thank you for all of your help!

Glad you got this sorted out!
Indeed, third-party cookies are required for some WordPress.com features to work correctly.
Happy blogging!
