Advertisement on the dashboard

Yesterday I notice that in the dashboard (comments part) and when I was adding a new post to the blog there was some advertising. It is strange, since wordpress supposedly don’t put ads for logged-in users…
What happened? Was it a mistake?
I hope you can help me…

Was it a banner (image) ad with “ad not by this site” below it?
If so, those ads are not placed on your site by WordPress.com. They are being placed there by software on your own computer, unfortunately. You may see text just below or nearby that says “Ads not by this site”. These ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or toolbar that you may have installed in your browser.
