Advertisements

  Hi all

  I expect this has already been answered, so apologies for repetition if it has. Anyway, does anyone know for how long those ads have been appearing on our sites? We received no warnings that this was going to happen, and, as our institution forbids advertising, we could have experienced some difficulties with management as a result of these ads appearing. In many cases, they are totally inappropriate to the content, and therefore often offensive.

  We didn’t notice the ads because we are usually logged in when accessing our own site. It was pointed out to us by our users.

  I see it is possible to pay to remove them, which we will have to do, but it would have been nice to have been advised first.

  Ads first made an appearance on blogs at wordpress.com in 2006.

  From the support document on advertising:

  Any ads you find that are inappropriate, if you can, take a screen shot of them and contact staff about them so that they can get the ad providers to make adjustments.

  We will definitely purchase the no-ads option because I was horrified when I saw the ads on our sites.

  Apologies to WordPress – we were unaware that these ads were on our site because we are nearly always logged in when viewing it, so when we were told about it, we assumed, obviously wrongly, that these ads were new. My mistake.
