Advice needed: how to rename and expand the subject mattter of my blog

    Hi guys, I am after some advice. I have been writing a political/military analytical blog looking at Afghanistan. The blog is called “afghanhindsight” to emphasise this. I would now like to expand my writing to look at other global conflict issues – Ukraine, Syria, terrorism, insurgency, conflict resolution etc.

    I don’t think I want to start a separate new blog, but rather, want to rework the format of the exisiting blog, perhaps to rename it (as a working title) “peace and conflict hindsight” but ensure that it:

    a) retains all my afghan analytical work as a major subset within it,
    b) still recognises the original “afghan hindisght” web address (not least because it would be a pain to get new business cards yet again!), but also
    c) has its own main new web address (eg “peace and conflict hindsight”).

    What is the best way to approach this? Should I in fact be thinking of setting up a new blog and importing the old Afghan work into it or can I rework and rename what I already have? Can the afghan web address be preserved in some way even though I will be migrating to the wider web address of peace and conflict hindsight?

    Very grateful and interested in any thoughts!

    Buy a custom domain and map it to the blog. That way all the old links will work and so will the ones going to the new URL.

    In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/ and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase.

    After you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog from the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades.

    Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
