Advice on renewing domain

I have a very basic website that is hosted on WordPress.com (for which I pay $13/year). Every year, I renew my domain using GoDaddy (which has become costly, because they charge me for protections that I don’t think I need). I’d like to stop using GoDaddy and would rather find an alternative method to renewing my domain. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, do I have to make changes to my WordPress account after changing how I’m renewing my domain? (GoDaddy is not hosting my site. WordPress is my host.) I’m not very advanced in this area, so detailed responses would be very helpful. Thanks!

As a follow up, it looks like I am mapping my domain name to WordPress.com. I would like to be able to also renew my domain name through WordPress. Up until now, it has been renewed through GoDaddy, and is set to auto renew on 11/15/14. How can I renew the domain through another company, like WordPress? Thanks!
