Affiliate linking
-
Hi, I just the page on monetization through affiliate marketing, and since it’s permitted I signed up to webgains.com because they manage mothercare, among other commerce partners in the UK, and these (baby, infant, childcare, child safety, etc) products are the ones I’m going to talk about.
Unfortunately, Webgains requires that I verify my site by either uploading a blank HTML file with a specific name, or inserting a precise META tag, both of which WordPress has gone to great lengths to make impossible on the WordPress.com site.
Since their policies say it’s permitted, but their engine seems to make it impossible, is the only possible solution to do a full install on my own domain, or do they have some means of getting around their lockdown on META tags for legitimate purposes?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question
While waiting please read: Monetize Your Site https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/ and specifically note Affiliate linking https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/#affiliate-linking

Hi timethief, and thanks for replying.
I have read that page, and it stated:
You can add affiliate links to your WordPress.com content as long as the primary purpose of your blog is to create original content, and as long as the code for the ad is supported.
Which was why I went to register with an affiliate service in the first place. Unfortunately the affiliate service needs me to prove I am the site owner, and I can only do so by affecting the site in ways WordPress don’t presently allow.
The code for the ads is supported, but the site verification process appears not to be. Perhaps this affiliate service is just incompatible with WordPress.

Please provide the URL of the relevant site.

Ok – I fixed it by tricking WordPress into showing the meta tag to the affiliate website.
No need to follow up : thank you!
