Altering HTML and CSS on a Template

  I’m trying out WordPress as a refreshing alternative to Movable Type. I’m not a problogger or programmer, but I do like a cleanly designed site and want to be able to alter HTML and CSS stuff. I do see that I would have to upgrade in order to alter CSS. But what about HTML? I just want to move and delete some stuff and insert my own style. Is there a basic template that I can work with that will allow this? I’m reading around here and not understanding what to do. Thanks!

  No, you can’t edit the HTML with a WordPress.com blog, but you can with an independently-hosted WordPress blog. You can read the differences here:
