Am i an idiot aka how do i fix my domain problem i caused by not reading first?
-
Hi there.
I just had a real facepalm moment. When i registered my blog for some reason it wouldn’t allow either ambraphotography.wordpress.com or ambralioness.wordpress.com (this was a few months ago). So for the fun of it i thought i’d check what blogs were on these domains. After typing both, they both said “this domain does not exist do you want to register it” to which i very impulsivel went “damn right!”. Then i reasoned there should be a way for me to switch my domain name on my active blog as i now have all 3 applicable domains.
Imagine my surprise when i discover the WordPress.com Blog/Site Address Change option, which obviously now tells me sorry Ambraphotography.wordpress.com already exists *facepalm* Then i thought hey i’ll just delete the site to free up the domain and then i learnt that, that doesn’t work quite that way -_-
Is there anyway to fix this or a way for me to just set up a redirect to my active blog (ambralightplay.wordpress.com) from both new domains? Ideally i’d love for all three of them to end at the same page. Is there a way to do this or should i use the Updating nameservers tutorial (not 100% sure if this is what i should do and don’t want to screw up so spectacularly again)?
Any help would be appreciated. Next time i should really read more carefully first =/

Deleting a blog is forever, the URL cannot be recycled and reused.

yeah, i got that already….is there anyway to set up a redirect or do i need to upgrade the accounts to be able to do that?

Why don’t you just get a custom domain name like whatever.com, which looks more professional anyway. That way it doesn’t matter what the underlying URL is.

i’m definitely considering that as my last option, i was just hoping there was some magical way to undo the idiotic thing i did, hopefully without costing me money. But i’ve made the best of the situation and setup static pages on the two other domains that has a redirect link.
