  We pay for webhosting with earthlink. Why am I being asked to pay $99 annually to WP? Earthlink said it was included in our fee to them.

  This is WordPress.com. Unless you are planning on hosting your site with us, there is no need to pay for the $99 annual subscription. It sounds like you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site that is being hosted at earthlink. Are you planning on hosting anything with us?
