I have noticed that the WordPress app on my phone takes up a lot of phone storage. I sometimes use the app to post, sometimes the computer. Since the uploaded pictures and posts are hosted on a server, can’t I clean up the app to not use so much storage? Is there a way to reduce what is stored on my phone to just the text or even none of the old posts at all (and just let them live online)?

Hi, are you using the app on Android, or on iOS? Your phone may well provide a way to help clear up the cache of your app(s) to free up some storage space!

I am using it on iPhone/iOS. In the Phone Storage section there is no way to reduce the cache. Can I do this in the app?

It looks like the only option is to offload the app, which removes the app but keeps your documents and data on your device. But, you would need to reinstall the app every time you want to use it, which might be a bigger problem.
Looking into this a bit further, there is no way to selectively choose what media or post/page data is stored locally on your device, so unfortunately there’s no other way to reduce things.

So as long as I have the WordPress App on my phone, it downloads and keeps the whole website including all media (even though it’s stored on a server)? In my case, it lists the app as using 2.4GB of space! For a small website that is significant.
Any other ideas on how I can use the app for new posts but don’t have to download all the website contents?

We don’t have an option to just wipe out local media, but to be clear, it shouldn’t be downloading your entire site. I’ve got several sites, including three that I post to regularly using my iPhone. My Documents and Data are only 85.2 MB, when two of the three sites total nearly 5GB worth of media.
Do you have a lot of stuff under “local changes” in your drafts? Could you ensure your live site has everything on it that’s supposed to be there, then completely uninstall the app and reinstall it?

I have no drafts showing in WordPress on my phone, and only one post says “local changes” (the most recent one). I am not sure what that means.
My live site definitely shows everything just fine so I assume it would be okay to uninstall the app? It is at 3GB … Do you recommend this?

Please have a look at your media library and drafts, and make sure it’s all on the live site. My biggest worry about uninstalling is any drafts or media that never got uploaded.
If it is all there on the live site, not just on your phone, I would recommend closing the app and uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
