Archive page and categories

Hello. I have two things I need help with please!
1. I would like each individual categories page to show a picture and the post title in a grid. I really don’t like the scrolling feed of all the full blog posts as it makes it very difficult to browse for earlier posts. Is there a way I can do this with wordpress.com? And if there isn’t – it’s a pretty big deal breaker for me(!!) – is there another site I can do this on? WordPress.org maybe?
2. I would like the same with the archives page too! I really dislike the long list of post names with no pictures.Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

How those pages are displayed is based on how the individual theme handles category or archive pages. If that design is important to you, your best bet is to find a theme that displays those pages in that way.
