Are Plugins available on Premium Plan?

For many years I understood that plugins weren’t available below the Business Plan on WordPress.com. I was quite surprised just now to see plugins listed starting from the Personal plan on the WordPress.com pricing page: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Also included under the Personal plan on this page: https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/install-a-plugin/

I am on a Premium plan. However, in the Plugins section of my WordPress admin dashboard the following messages appear:

“Access thousands of plugins with the Business Plan”
or per plugin: “Requires a plan upgrade”

Could someone advise which plans allow the use of plugins and which don’t?

    Many thanks,
    Peggy

Yes, but for one reason or another only on new plans, not on excisting plans.

    Hi @peggypolias,

    Thank you for reaching out!

With the current framework, all our plans now includes plugins. Even if you’re on the Personal Plan, you can install plugins.

I understand you’re currently on the Premium Plan. You have two options so you can install plugins:

    1. You can either upgrade to a longer-duration Premium Plan (ex. if you’re on Annual, upgrade to Two-Year Plan or higher) or Business Plan (or higher). Both options are considered as an upgrade.
    2. You can cancel your current plan as discussed here – https://wordpress.com/support/manage-purchases/cancel-a-purchase/#cancel-a-subscription, then repurchase the same plan so you’re current plan will update to the new one.

Could you try any of the two?

Let me know if you have any questions.

Many thanks @staartmees and @kavillarosa121896 for your replies. I have just gone into the Plans section of the dashboard, and chosen the 2-year option for Premium. The purchase button changed to Upgrade and the transaction went through. Now on the Plugin section of the dashboard, I’m able to pick and choose options to add to my website. Very exciting!

That is great to hear. I am glad everything is working as expected now and that you were able to upgrade and start adding plugins.

If you have any questions as you continue setting things up, feel free to start a new thread and we will be happy to help.
