Audio – mixed messages

I just got a Blogger plan to include some audio files on my blog, per this page which says all paid plans can do it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/
Buuut, I’m finding mixed messages as to whether this subscription is sufficient https://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/#audio
With my Blogger plan I can now upload audio to my media library, but it’s not playing. Can someone help with the problem? (Or clarify if the solution is for me to pay more :( Thank you!

The Blogger plan allows you to upload audio files to the media library, yes. As you have already done that, I’m not clear what exactly you’re confused about.
Whether or not the audio plays has nothing to do with your plan.
Can you please provide a link to the post or page where you’ve embedded the audio file that isn’t working so I can take a look?

I noticed that on my phone on Chrome, the sounds work. But on my computer they don’t. In Chrome they look like they’re playing but I don’t hear anything. On Firefox and Explorer they look like they’re forever loading.

Okay, the problem is not with your site. It’s with the browser being unable to play a .m4a file. To see what I mean, try opening the file in Firefox directly:
https://notesfromagringa.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/garbage-bell.m4aIt doesn’t work for me in Firefox, but it does in Chrome and Safari (the audio in your post itself also works fine for me in Chrome).
I did some searching, and it appears while .m4a files should play in any browser, they sometimes don’t, depending on how exactly the file was encoded by the program that created the file, and the decoding built into the program (the browser in this case) you’re using to play it. See:
If I’m reading the browser compatibility info at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Supported_media_formats#Browser_compatibility, Firefox will only play these files if they’re encoded as .mp4. Some articles I find suggest that simply changing the extension of the file name from .m4a to .mp4 should do the trick, so try that first:
In the file manager on your computer, just edit the file name and change the extension. Then upload the renamed file to your site and embed in the post instead. If that works, then you can just do this going forward.
If not, you might need to convert these files to MP3s instead, which has wider browser support.

Thank you! Converting to mp4 didn’t work because my account type doesn’t allow videos, only audio. I converted the files, using an easy-to-find online site, to mp3s and that worked great. I appreciate your fast and thorough responses!
