auto-emails not working

  • Unknown's avatar

auto emails are not going through to all of my readers who have subscribed by email (non-Wordpress users). Spam was checked and this is not the issue. Something appears wrong with the functionality.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,
I’ll tag this thread for Staff. Please post the email addresses for these followers knowing that the software will redact (hide) them from public view and only Staff will be able to see theme. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Most often, what is happening in these cases is that the email gets blocked by a filter on the recipient’s side or by the recipient’s email provider.

How many readers total have told you about this issue?

Do you know if all of the subscriber email accounts experiencing the problem are on the same email system? If you’re not sure, can you find out?

You may also want to recommend that your users add the from address for the subscription emails to their email program contacts list. Sometimes doing that will prevent email from being filtered out by the email client itself.

Hi! So sorry for my delay and thanks for the help!

I could be wrong, but I don’t think it’s the filter because even I’m subscribed and not recieving them. I checked my spam folder, etc. I was getting them in the beginning and it suddenly just stopped. It started with the auto emails were just going out many hours after the post actually went public (that’s fine – I don’t care), but then it just stopped sending altogether.

I cannot be sure of all members impacted by this since I do not allow comments, etc. on my page. Though, I could survey if I need to (assuming they see the post without getting the notification email and reply).

Some examples of those I know are impacted are:

(email visible only to moderators and staff) (following via wordpress subscription, but my emails are set to recieve all new publications)

(email visible only to moderators and staff)

(email visible only to moderators and staff)

However – when I look the last two up, they are not showing on my email subscribers list any longer (but they both are complaining they definitely subscribed and did not unsubscribe, and one is loosing her sight and can’t actually visit the site and read the font so she never goes beyond the email sent to her… when they were being sent).

Not sure if any of that helps, but I appreciate your time!

I checked the email addresses you provided, and I found that email subscriptions to the http://mybrotherjeffhall.wordpress.com/ blog were turned off but a subscription to receive updates via the WordPress.com Reader at http://wordpress.com/#!/read/ was turned on. I think the first email was yours. Can you try updating the subscription settings via this link to make sure you have turned on email updates for the blogs you’d like to get email subscriptions for?
    https://wordpress.com/wp-admin/network/admin.php?page=subscriptions&subs_user=megschristine%40gmail.com

The other two addresses had incomplete email subscription signups on file, which means they (or someone) probably entered their email to start a subscription, but they never clicked the confirmation link to complete the subscription signup. I send new confirmation emails to both of them, and you can let them know that they should make sure to click the link in the confirmation email to make their subscription to the http://mybrotherjeffhall.wordpress.com/ blog start working. Note that you can re-send subscription confirmation emails yourself any time by logging out of WordPress.com and entering an email address into the “Follow” tab that appears at the bottom right of the blog.

Since I don’t have a record of how subscriptions were setup before or what changes other people may have made to them (even if by mistake), I don’t have a way of knowing if the subscriptions were setup before and what might have stopped them. So, what I can do is document this case (which this thread does) and help you with instructions for getting the emails you mentioned re-signed up. After that if subscription stop for some reason, at least will have some documentation to look back at for future troubleshooting.

Thanks so much! Sorry for my novice knowledge level!

No apologies necessary!! Thanks for your patience and for taking the time to check the details. :)

If you try re-subscribing and letting the other two users you mentioned know they need to complete the email confirmation step and you still have trouble after that, let me know and I’ll take another look.
