    Hi
I have two columns on the home page. One in English the other in French. But when I publish the French column is auto translated to English. How can I stop this please?

    Site: https://juniperboat.wordpress.com.
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

What is the URL of your site because I don’t see 2 colums on the frontpage of https://juniperboat.wordpress.com/

You have the right frontpage. It’s just that I got so hacked off trying to get a second column to display in the French language that I wrote it in that I scrapped that idea and went to one column in English. Hoping that a non-english browser would tranlate it into thier language. Wishful thinking?

  • Hi @garcrogo

I see you are using Google Chrome, and By default, Chrome offers to translate pages written in a language you don’t understand. I think it does this based on the language settings that you have on your computer. More info here: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/173424

Because the translation is happening in the browser directly (and not controlled here at WordPress.com) there is not a way to disable that from this end. It can be controlled only within the Chrome preference settings of your site visitors. It may also only be something that happens in Chrome, since I am unsure of how other browsers handle auto-translations.

Sorry that you are not able to control this within WordPress.com but I hope it at least explains what you are seeing.

    Hi
Thanks very much for that. Hadn’t occurred to me that it was Google Chrome doing it. Now of course I see it’s obvious! Thanks for clearing that up. I’ll go back now and republished with a French translation. Thanks again for your help.
