Avatar Disappearing from Introductory Blog Post
-
I set up a Blog Block on my ‘Questions’, etc. page. Now, when I paste test in the block, the avatar disappears from the block. I have tried multiple options in the check boxes and I know the gravatar is set to appear on this page. Why is it disappearing?
Thanks for your help.Site: https://edtechtoolsfromtandy740390444.wordpress.com.

FStat,
Both the sample introductory post and any block with a post I add are causing the gravatar “tools from Tandy” to vanish. Of course, I tested the preview and it’s still not there.
I also made sure the settings were correct to include this. When I paste or type into the post block, the gravatar at the bottom instantly disappears.Honestly, the inability to embed educational content from Bulb, Sway, Venngage and Hypothes.is is bothering me the most in creating this project for an ID course. Why would educational sites need security and protection and all of the commercial embedding site be allowed?
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
You mentioned this is an issue you are having on the “Questions, Comments, Ideas & Answers” page yes? I visited this page but did not see the blog posts block in use, and did not see any gravatar images. Did you remove this from the published page?
If so, can you set up a “draft” page that shows the issue? We would need to take a look and see it in action to be able to troubleshoot.
Honestly, the inability to embed educational content from Bulb, Sway, Venngage and Hypothes.is is bothering me the most in creating this project for an ID course.
You do have the option to use custom embed codes if you upgrade to our Business plan, which will allow you to upload any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress” as well as edit source code, use advanced embeds, and access FTP uploads.
If cost is an issue you can also opt to leave WordPress.com and set up a self-hosted WordPress site, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.
To clarify, standard hosts use the direct advanced software package downloaded from WordPress.org (which is not the same as WordPress.com) and that is the advanced version that web designers, developers, and advanced users prefer. The open source version of WordPress is free, so your only cost would be what the host charges. You would also be able to upload plugins, themes, use advanced embed codes, etc.
Hope this helps!

Jerry,
OK, about the “traditional web host.” I still find it alarming that with the concept of “Open Source” it is free, OpenSource and education software that is restricted and costs money to embed and the commercial products work beautifully.I will add a blank post to my page, but the second I put in any content, the avatar will disappear. I am not sure how to demonstrate this. The example post had my site and small image and then when I pasted or typed content it disappeared. Of course, I added a block with the same result.
I will add a blog block again to the site and possible another with content and see if you can see the problem.
Thank you for your help!

Jerry Sarcastic,
Now, when I went in to add content, it added the post I was trying to add previously, complete with the gravatar.
There is also a space to leave a reply.
In the blocks I didn’t see a place to have a discussion or comments, but if I can reply to a reply that could work the same way.
I am not confident I will know how to get the next post to work, but I wll do some reading.
Let me know if you have any other workarounds for emdedding.
Thank you for your help.

Hi there!
I will add a blank post to my page, but the second I put in any content, the avatar will disappear.
Hmm, I’m having a bit of difficulty following this as well. Would you be able to take a series of screenshots (from the moment you go to add a post, to when the avatar shows up, and finally after the avatar disappears) and share them with us here? You can use https://snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and share a link here. (Or upload them to your site at https://wordpress.com/media and we can take a look.)
