Backup on wordpress.com

  Hello,
  it’s much time I am asking myself if it is wise to perform a full backup of my wordpress blog. So far I could not find a way to access the DB (and on some other threads the support crew stated that this feature is not available on wordpress.com)… so, two questions:
  – does wordpress.com perform automatic backups on their server so that if a blog is hacked the user can restore it?
  – and if not, how can a user do a full backup?

  The site is nothing special, but it would be a pity to lose its content after many years and people following it.

  Hi there,

  There is no way to do a full backup on WordPress.com, as we do not provide FTP access and thus there is no way to download a full database backup of a WordPress.com site.

  You can export both your site content and your media files at My Site ->Settings ->Export.

  We also keep multiple backups of every active site on WordPress.com that we’d be able to restore even in case of a catastrophic event that wiped out all our servers.

  However, I should note that we don’t restore these backups on request to reverse actions you took on your site yourself.

  Thanks, I’ll do then an export of my data, but basically I am easy knowing that wordpress has countermeasures against catastrophic events.
